Subscribe to this comment's feed| I will always rememember the original line-up of Boston, and them being, for many years, my favorite group. Bostons debut album was perfect in every way. Brad Delp's vocals were an important part of the Boston sound, and one that were easily recognizable and enjoyable. I only had the opportunity to see Boston live twice, but was thrilled and impressed both times. I took my wife with me, when we were dating, to Jones Beach, and turned on to the so many more songs than just those from their debut album. Boston, to me, never reached the respect or plateau they deserved. It is a shame that at the time of Brad's death we pause to remember how great their debut album was, and how much more respect they should have received. Like Styx w/o Dennis, and Journey w/o Steve, Boston will never be the same. Thank you, Brad. | |

I read that his fiance stated that he had been in a state of deppression for some time. Why? Why? Why is this all we will ever know? My heart is unsettled as are millions of other Brad Delp and Boston Fans! I truly believe with all my heart, we have a right to know what happened to bring on Brads desire to take his own life! Was it clinical depression? Was he on medication for his problem? What the hell happened. He had to know that millions of us thrived on what he gave to us and to the world of music. Have you listened to some of his own material through RTZ? Brad was a brilliant songwriter and a true himanitarian. I am mad as hell and hope that we get some more of an explaination than what we have been given. That is not enough for me and countless others. I try to find some relief listening to the music he left behind but its not enough. Brad did not have to die in the way that he did. I will never be able to accept the fact that he went to great lengths to take his own life. Rest in peace Brad. Long live the voice you gave us and the love you left behind in all of us that you touched. I hope that someof the new material Brad and the Boys were practicing for their cancelled summer tour will find its way to the fans that have been impatiently waing for a new Boston album to emerge. I was listening to my mother's Everly Brothers and my father's Kingston Trio albums up until age 10 when my cousin played "More Than A Feeling" for me. I will never forget that moment, it was like an epiphany! That first Boston album is a complete masterpiece and I wore out 2 of them. I would give up all of my cds to keep that one. Brad's voice was so perfect that it didn't even sound real at times. It is a huge loss for the music world, but an incredible addition to Heaven's choir. Thank you so much, Brad for all of the joy you brought to so many music fans. I'm listening to you right now. |

Boston's "Don't look back", was my twins and my first album that we ever got. I remember that we both pitched in to buy it. We played it all the time. As I got older I learned to appreciate music more for what it was. I realised that Tommy Scholz was one of the greatest guitar players in the world, if not the best because he was responsible for todays sound. I love the guitar but love vocals more and know that singers like Brad Delp are the reason why I was so interest in studing voice education in my college years. Brad's voice had the best range and was beautiful, emotional, precise, intensional, and even angelic. I know he will be missed by his public, but my condolences go out to his wife, family, band members, and friends! He will truely be missed! |

I think Tom Scholz is a musical genius- my wife and I heard him play at the Carrington Pavillion in Danville, Va. in '04. When you really admire someone, neither yourself or others can ever cheer loud enough to satisfy you. You want the ones you admire (Boston) to hear how impressed you are and how much their music means to you. I was mad at myself and the crowd for what I perceived to be not letting Tom, Brad and the others know just how much we loved what they were doing. I had an opportunity to see Boston in concert in Greensborough, NC around 1978 and did not go. I always regretted that and even more so now. Yet it is ok, as it is ok that I will surely face more pain in my life. For when the time arises that something crosses my path and I do not understand why, I will always have the lyrics and angelic voice of Brad Delp to assure me that I never was and never will be alone because music is a universal thread that builds peace, love and understanding. When i was in high school grunge was the sound everyone listened to except me. I was a die hard rock and roll fan, I never went anywhere without my boston cd's. I as many other people also loved to harmonize with brads music, I would sing hitch a ride like there was no tommorow giving it all i had. To this day boston is my favorite band along with RTZ, Brad will be truely missed. I sure hope he knew the Lord as his personnel Savior, I really would love to meet him someday when I go home to see my Lord.I will pray for the family of Brad Delp and i hope they get through this tragedy. You were the best Brad Delp we will miss ya. | |

Music is a part of our life. No matter what age you are, music follows us throughout our life. I'm 44 now, and there is not a day that goes by that I don?t here a song on the radio that some how touched my life. Like most of the comments, Brad's inspirational voice comforted me through some trying times in my life. I lost some important people in my life as a teenager, and by the age of twenty both my parents were gone. I can tell you that music carried me through some difficult times in my life. I am married and have two beautiful girls, and I have influenced their lives through the music that I grew up with. Today, they tell me to turn down my music, especially the first Boston album. I tell them one day they will look back on their music and how it influenced their lives. It saddens me the lost we all share with Brad?s passing. I will never forget what he gave me without ever knowing it. My favorite Boston lyrics are from Peace of Mind, I am sure that Brad has that now. ?I understand about indecision But I don?t care if I get behind People livin in competition All I want is to have my peace of mind? I too was a lonely soul, but your music wrapped around me and lifted me like nothing else could. I wish we could have done the same for Brad....if we had only known, I can't help but think that hundreds of fans would have come and kept you company Brad, just to comfort you and lift you up as you had done for us so many times. Now at 45 I still listen to their cd's all the time.....Saw them for my very first time in KC at Sandstone....in 2004. It was awesome, I even got to meet Brad. So kind, autographed my cd cover. We spoke of a common love of animals, he was so cool and it didn't matter to him that he didn't know me from squat. Saw them again 2 years ago in Wichita; AWESOME again. A Beautiful Place - When the first Boston albumn came out I about 18 years old. I was fully into to Skateboarding and Music. When I heard Brad singing on that first albumn it really changed my life. I would harmonize with him (I thought perfectly) all the way up to the highest notes, at which point I would conceed that he was not of this earth. That music set me free. The Boston sound and Brad's singing inspired me to imagine myself doing anything. I used to sit in my car and sing with Brad and at the moment our voices became one (with my preceived perfect pitch), my world was no longer made of concrete and blacktop but of a pure life force energy that transended space and time. | Well, where to start Brad...I was eleven, 19 years ago. My sister had just won a dance off at a Bar Mitzvah. As a prize she received a Boston Third Stage tape. She brought it home and as I would soon learn it would become my all time favorite band, tape and 'Amanda' my favorite song. I have collected all the cd's up to date, I have two albums on record, a single on tape, and three awesome memories of seeing the band live. The band would come to play in Konocti, California. I would sing along to every song, crying with a lifetime of memories. I fell in love to boys while listening to Amanda. When I found out that Boston's first record came out in 1976 I knew it was meant to be since that was the year I was born. Just about a month before finding out about Brad's death I had finally commited to going to Boston next year. I am thankful that I have Boston and Brad to listen to for the rest of my life, but I am sadened that it is only recordings and never live again. Brad and the band are awesome musicians. My prayers are with Brad's family and friends. To quote a song from their latest cd, Corporate America, "I had a good time" and Brad your memory will live on. Be Blessed. | |

this is the equivalent to john lennon's assasination. no words can even begin to describe this feeling. for us all, he will never die. for those close to him, having lost someone in a devastating way (and was in a coma for 12 years as a result) i can honestly say this person is still a part of me and will be forever. the only consolation in this is that he went peacefully, because the alternative i can tell you is worse. no one should suffer by themselves. Having said that, Brad Delp was a musical Icon. I feel privliged to have seen Boston live 4 times and actually had a back stage pass to two of their shows. I can't begin to explain what a pleasure it was to meet a man that I respected because of his voice and once meeting him had realized his personality was every bit as respectful as his voice! This was a man that truley embrassed the people around him whether it was band members or strangers. If anyone had the chance to experiance this first hand you will understand what I mean. Just read the Boston.org site this week. It says it all! The second time I met him I actualy had my three kids with me. Although they weren't around in the 70's, they did live the Boston experiance throuh me. Than when Boston came out with the Greatest hits CD they could really form their own opinions. As it turns out, my daughter sings. She was 14 when she met him. When she met Brad she let him know how she felt about his voice. She told him that he had the most amazing crisp, clear, wondeful voice that she had ever heard! Of course he thanked her and in true Brad fasion told her that he just happened to try out for this job and was lucky enough to get it. She just smiled... ;-) As the conversation went on, Brad asked my daughter if she sang? of course she said yes and went on to tell him that singing professionaly is what she wanted to do. Brad went on to talk to her for about 10 minutes. During the conversation he gave her words of encouragement and told her if she has a passion for singing and has a dream to be a professional, than she should follow her dreams and go after it! Than he smiled (almost as if he were cracking a joke at his own expense) and said ?who knows, maybe you will be in the right place at the right time like me!? Today my daughter is in her first year of FAU. Her major is, yeap you guessed it, music! I am not saying that the discussion she had with Brad made her decide to go to college but it just supports the message I am trying to get accross. Tired as he was after singing his lungs out, he still had time to touch a 14 year old little girls life. I don't know where this note will go from here. Frankly I don't care. It is making me feel better by writing it. In fact, to use the words from one of Brads songs, I guess you can say "I'M FEELIN SATISFIED" In closing, I will miss Brads voice during live concerts. One can only hope that there are 100's of songs on tape so that years from now we can bring Brad back to life if only on a CD. It has been two weeks since Brad has passed and I still cannot believe it. I wish I had known him personally but in a way in the last few weeks I have gotten to know him through all the amazing things I've read about him. After all his fame and success he still treated everybody like a friend. I actually know a guy that worked with Brad way back in the early seventies and he said that he was a nice unassuming guy. At the company party?s he would show up with his acoustic and sing and even back then people were floored by his voice. I wore out the first two Boston albums when I was a kid, That music gave me a reason to look forward to every day. It was music for the spring and summer about feeling good and making something positive out of nothing. I understand most of the lyrics were Toms but only Brad's voice could bring out the feelings. It is sad that Brad and the band are not in the hall of fame but who really cares. They are in my hall of fame and many others. I believe that all Brad cared about was friends family and the fans and all his charitable causes. He cared more about everyone else than he cared about himself. I wonder if he really new how much he was loved by all. Our loss is heavens gain because now heaven is a better place with Brad and his voice. |

| For as long as i can remember, growing up with 2 older brothers in there 40's ,i have always had the rock grop Boston playing somewhere in my house. I was awed listening to Brad's voice and tom's guitar riffs as well as the rest of the band hammer through song after song that was not only great rock and roll for a upcoming teenager but was easy to hear every word from every verse from every song. I thank my oldest brother for taking me to see them live in upstate ny because even though brad's voice was not what it once was it was still one of the best concerts i have ever attended in my life. When i read the local paper and saw the clip int paper i thought the same thing, It has to be another singer from Boston. I was so looking forwardto the up coming tour this summer to see them maybe one last time.....I am still in shock just as you are. It indeed was a sad day and will be for sometime. | |

Although I never met Brad Delp,Growing up not from his home in Danvers Ma., then working at the same place he worked, making heating elements for Mr.Coffee machines just before he made it famous. Then living not 30 miles from his home in N.H. It was almost like we were neighbors. I had the honor of seeing him perform with Boston 4 times and with Beatle Juice only ounce. (and looking forward to seeing them again) Whenever I hear a Boston song again, I will be a bit sad and won't help but wonder, WHY? You were the best Brad Delp. One of the most important things that you learn when you study counseling that is if your client commits suicide, it is not your fault. Years of oppressed feelings accumulate. Most men have difficulty expressing these hidden feelings with anyone because of the dynamics of society. The depressed male is stigmatized as being weak, causing the individual to further protected their darkest of attitudes. Being the middleman of a decades long conflict can wear down any person. However that person chose to be the middleman, chose to continue the relationships, and did not seek help when he started suicide ideation. At this point he should have tried to confide in someone. He knew he was in trouble but he managed to keep up his facade. The tears of the clown remained hidden in his darkest hour. His professional image and fear of psychotherapists may have prevented him from seeking help. It is not Tom Scholz fault as the press seems to be demonizing him at this point. It is not his band, family, or fiance's fault. The anwswer lies forever within Brad Delp about why he did not reach out for help when he needed it. Psychology professionals are strictly confidential, any person who seeks crisis intervention is treated with dignity and respect. Male depression is being recognized as an epidemic that is not being treated. After reading what was going on in his life, I would have suggested family counseling similar to what Metallica just went through extending the therapy into all the groups he was involved with. Even though he is gone, you can still move toward a healthy reconciliation that will put everyone at peace while they all can still reap the benefits. You owe it to Brad, he paid the highest price for the disfunctionl system of relationships. Annabelle Lee |

I meet Brad once after a Beatle Juice concert. I went up to ask him to sign a T-shirt & he took my hand and we talked for about 5 minutes. It was such a thrill for me because I have always been a Boston fan as well as a Brad Delp fan. As we talked, he made me feel like we have always been friends. I have been reading and searching for more to read about Brad since March 9th. He was such a down to earth guy & a nice guy, as I have heard everyone who ever knew him and everyone who ever met him. I am grateful that I got to experience 5 minutes of this wonderful human being. Rest in Peace Brad. Val |
