BOSTON, June 13 (UPI) -- Creating new editions of Boston's first two albums were a labor of love for group founder Tom Scholz.
"Boston," released in 1976, sold 17 million copies, while its follow-up, 1978's "Don't Look Back," sold 7 million.
"I thought the original mixes were good, but the CDs were an abomination," says Scholz. "So what I did basically was turn them into something I could stand to listen to. Now I can listen to the first two albums in my cars."
Scholz says he worked "12-plus-hour days, eight days straight" in March in remixing and remastering the albums. Sony Music, Boston's original label, had begun distributing upgraded copies of the titles that Scholz wasn't happy with, so the company allowed him to recreate the new versions.
Scholz is also working on Boston's next album, though no title or release date have been announced.
