BOSTON’S future never looked more bleak that it was on March 9, 2007 – the day vocalist Brad Delp took his own life. Now, a little over a year later events have come to pass that bring a renewed energy and spirit to the band. Tom Scholz has once again assembled a band that can carry out and carry on his musical vision. A genius musician, songwriter and engineer, Scholz has recruited new vocalist, Tommy DeCarlo, who was discovered under the most unlikely of circumstances and new guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet. The unknown DeCarlo, employed at Home Depot, contacted the band with a link to a website showing him singing BOSTON songs. Michael Sweet, a huge BOSTON fan, is also the front man for the band Stryper. The events that brought both men to the band seem to have been scripted by someone up above – that someone being Brad Delp. |

Plucked From Obscurity, Man Joins Favorite Band After Karaoke Wows Founder. Tommy DeCarlo performs with the legendary rock band Boston after being plucked from obscurity to be the group's new lead singer. Tommy DeCarlo of Charlotte, N.C., dreamed of becoming a rock star, listening to his favorite band's albums and memorizing their songs. "A Boston song would come on and I'd get fired up and I'd start singing it," said DeCarlo, 43, a father of two kids -- Talia, 19, and Tommy Jr., 17. But dreams didn't pay the bills, so DeCarlo worked as a credit manager at a Home Depot store in Charlotte to support his. Still, he never gave up singing along to his Boston CDs, and his daughter Talia took notice. She posted a MySpace page of DeCarlo singing karaoke to Boston songs after the band's lead singer, Brad Delp, committed suicide in March 2007. And, in an instant, DeCarlo's whole world turned upside down. |

Tom and Tommy were on Donny Deutch's "The Big Idea" on CNBC, Tuesday the 20th at 10 PM. Everyone loves a Cinderella story... and mine is analogous to winning American Idol and the Lottery and being that guy in the movie Rock Star all rolled in to one! It’s truly unbelievable because I never dreamed this BIG {idea} :-) |

Well, whadda you know? The band that has been so meticulous and reticent to release albums at a breakneck pace over the years is still standing tall and preparing to write another chapter in their incredible journey. No one will ever use the word prolific when referring to the group from the Bay State, but the word quality always enters the conversation. With all the technological advances in the last three decades since the first Boston album hit the airwaves, very, very few can stand up to the way that music sounds sonically. The clarity, the detail, the texture and depth are still technological marvels. Then there are the songs themselves, memorable moments attached to each, all standing singularly on their own as Rock masterpieces. They were the perfect radio records and they put many of the songs surrounding them on the radio to shame, certainly in terms of pure sound. |

It's easy to think of hard-rocking musicians, like Tom Scholz, as the definitive "bad boys" of the world. But once you get to know a little about him, it's hard to think of him as anything but a nice guy, with a huge heart, who is passionately committed to compassion. When writing songs for legendary rock band Boston, Scholz focuses on positive messages and music that moves. Off the stage, he is trying to move people to live cruelty free lives. For us here at JUST CAUSE, seeing people who are peacefully pursuing their passion is indeed something that puts a song in our heart. (And it doesn't hurt that Alyssa - JUST CAUSE founder - has "More Than a Feeling" on the "karaoke fantasies" playlist on her iPod.) Thanks for sharing, Tom, and for being a shining example of the peaceful pursuit of passion - that's the kind of thing that saves worlds. |

Boston leader Tom Scholz tells Billboard.com he hopes to finish recording the band's next studio album after its summer tour and have it out "just after the first of the year." Scholz says the album -- Boston's first since 2002's "Corporate America" -- is a mix of "really straightforward rock 'n' roll songs and some things that are pretty esoteric. |

Summer job: Tommy DeCarlo is taking time off from Home Depot to tour with Boston.
See how this rock 'n' roll fantasy sounds: One day you're trying to get Home Depot shoppers to apply for in-store credit. The next you're rehearsing with Boston and getting ready for a national summer tour.
"I never could have dreamed this," says Tommy DeCarlo, 43, Boston's new Brad Delp-channeling frontman, who is taking leave from his credit manager job at a Charlotte Home Depot to perform with the band. "That first gig is going to be something."
Bands ranging from AC/DC to Lynyrd Skynyrd have found new singers in the wake of tragedy (Delp committed suicide last year), inevitably choosing road-tested replacements. DeCarlo's rocking Cinderella tale includes the fact that he never has even been in a band.
