It's easy to think of hard-rocking musicians, like Tom Scholz, as the definitive "bad boys" of the world. But once you get to know a little about him, it's hard to think of him as anything but a nice guy, with a huge heart, who is passionately committed to compassion. When writing songs for legendary rock band Boston, Scholz focuses on positive messages and music that moves. Off the stage, he is trying to move people to live cruelty free lives. For us here at JUST CAUSE, seeing people who are peacefully pursuing their passion is indeed something that puts a song in our heart. (And it doesn't hurt that Alyssa - JUST CAUSE founder - has "More Than a Feeling" on the "karaoke fantasies" playlist on her iPod.) Thanks for sharing, Tom, and for being a shining example of the peaceful pursuit of passion - that's the kind of thing that saves worlds. |

Boston leader Tom Scholz tells Billboard.com he hopes to finish recording the band's next studio album after its summer tour and have it out "just after the first of the year."
Scholz says the album -- Boston's first since 2002's "Corporate America" -- is a mix of "really straightforward rock 'n' roll songs and some things that are pretty esoteric. |

Summer job: Tommy DeCarlo is taking time off from Home Depot to tour with Boston.
See how this rock 'n' roll fantasy sounds: One day you're trying to get Home Depot shoppers to apply for in-store credit. The next you're rehearsing with Boston and getting ready for a national summer tour.
"I never could have dreamed this," says Tommy DeCarlo, 43, Boston's new Brad Delp-channeling frontman, who is taking leave from his credit manager job at a Charlotte Home Depot to perform with the band. "That first gig is going to be something."
Bands ranging from AC/DC to Lynyrd Skynyrd have found new singers in the wake of tragedy (Delp committed suicide last year), inevitably choosing road-tested replacements. DeCarlo's rocking Cinderella tale includes the fact that he never has even been in a band.

Tom Scholz of Boston, left, plays ’Peace of Mind’ with Michael Sweet of Stryper at the Phoenix Rising to benefit victims of the Station nightclub fire, held at the Dunkin’ Donuts arena. With sparked lighters an unspoken taboo at last night’s Phoenix Rising benefit concert for the survivors of the 2003 Station nightclub fire, many in the audience relied on a different source of light to show unity and inspiration: the glow of their cell phones.Brandon Reid and Gary Hoey first convinced the 5,400-strong at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence to raise their arms and shine their LED lights, but it was passionate performances that made it a rock-fueled night to remember. “Every one of those people at The Station were rockers, and they want to rock,” host and Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider told the crowd. “So we’re gonna rock!” More than three dozen performers came together to raise money for The Station Family Fund, which distributes funds to victims and survivors of The Station nightclub fire that claimed 100 lives and severely injured two hundred others five years ago. The fire was caused when pyrotechnics during a Great White concert engulfed the West Warwick club. |
