From time to time over recent years in conversation with other people, its been discussed about the shallow emptiness of most of the music that is offered to today's younger generation. Oh how we would in retrospect feel so blessed to have grown up in the classic rock period with such truly legendary bands such as Pink Floyd, Boston, Genesis, Led Zep, Queen, Toto, Yes, ...to name a few. I had heard stories of how some of today's youth are discovering the era of classic rock. This morning after coming home from work and reading the endless thoughts of the terrible passing of Brad Delp, the remarkable singer for the legendary band Boston, I was amazed how so many younger people are tuning into the classic rock period. It just shows how great music transcends time....and touches the lives of generations to come. BTW, im 44 years young ENJOY the music ! - Peter Vourakis

I am 19 and I consider myself a classic rock fanatic. My favorite bands are Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Boston, Def Leppard, & Queen to name a few. I do enjoy listening to everything from Billy Joel and Elton John to Motley Crue and Whitesnake. I am glad to see that I am not the only one who feels this way!! - James Maresca

I'm 17 and I didn't really become greatly interested in classic rock until I started playing guitar. From a musical perspective the difficulty, complexity, and structure of classic rock is clearly superior to new rock. For the most part new rock is just repetetive power chords with almost no real lead guitar parts. If they do have a decent guitar riff it is usually because they stole it from an old band. This article says it is not necessarily because it is better but I think that really is the primary reason. I don't listen to new rock because I've heard it and it just sounds like whining with almost no musical complexity. I was listening to a new rock radio station and I heard the beginning of Hendrix's little wing played in a new rock song but horribly distorted with no real taste. I just really appreciate bands like Boston with awesome leads, excellent vocals, and superior musical structure. How can you really compare bands like Audioslave and Nickelback to Jimi Hendrix, Boston, Led Zeppelin, etc? - Justin McCotter

Today's bands lack diversity to me. Personally, Nickelback, Evanescence, and maybe Chemical Romance are good bands of today and that's it. I'm 16 and have grown up on classic rock from the 70's and 80's and most of that music was more heart-felt and had more meaning in the songs than today's crap. Boston, Led Zeppelin, and 38 Special are my three favorites but I like alot more than that. Also, today's music is all dark, angry sounding with common riffs and themes. You don't hear any bands as unique as Queen, Boston, or Blue Oyster Cult out there. Most bands of today die out in a matter of months after one hit while Tom Petty, Rick Springfield, and Van Halen albums are still selling everyday. We are in a "musically lost generation" today. - Kyle Parrish

I'm 19 (almost 20) and the ironic thing about this article is that I grew up almost strictly on 60s classic rock. It's only in the last couple of years that I've slowly progressed through the ages to discover 70s/80s rock, and I'm now getting to the point where I'm cherry-picking the small handful groups from my generation that I think are decent. So it's almost like I've followed the pattern the article is suggesting, but in reverse.

The unfortunate reality though is that the majority of what's played on the radio today is pretty awful. I can think of less than ten bands who made it big in the last 15 years that I would consider 'decent'. - Tim Kotula
