Together with alum from the band Boston, Barry Goudreau put together an interesting nine songs recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles. It's the distinctive Boston guitar sound with more basic rock & roll. "What's a Fella to Do" could be a sequel to "Rock and Roll Band"; "Mean Woman Blues" goes in an almost Foghat direction. Fran Cosmo's vocals feel a bit more British than Brad Delp, and "Leavin' Tonight" leans more toward producer Mike Chapman and the sound of the Sweet than one would expect. Goudreau's guitar and Syb Hashian's drums are a powerful combo -- no bassist is listed. The song "Dreams" gave Goudreau's self-titled debut the radio attention it deserved, and a bit of a following. This track definitely sounds like the band Boston which, rumor has it, upset Tom Scholz. In 1992 singer Delp and guitarist Goudreau joined Brian Maes & the Memory. They rode the Maes original "Until Your Love Comes Back Around" into the Top 30 in America, and the Return to Zero album was a nice reunion for the two major forces behind this. "Life Is What We Make It" and "Cold Cold World" are good slices of American hard rock. More refined than Grand Funk Railroad and not as slick as the Mickey Thomas version of Starship, the Barry Goudreau album is a fun record free from the restrictions of Scholz's meticulous production. While "Cold Cold World" may evoke thoughts of the song "Long Time," the string quartet on "Sailin' Away" gives the album a depth and identity. Just a bunch of professional musicians playing what they like and coming up with a gem.

We are trying to repair and mix the audio recording of BOSTON's performance at the Brad Delp Tribute show. For unknown reasons BOSTON's gear was moved and uncabled following our sound check. This, coupled with a minimal set change time, resulted in numerous technical problems during our performance, and even necessitated starting the set without Michael Sweet's guitar. Because there are missing or damaged tracks that will be troublesome in a stereo mixdown, this may require considerable effort in our studio, which is set up exclusively for BOSTON recording, editing and mixing. Two recordings were made, one into our normal live taping system and one into a professional A/V company computer. We have been unable to get the computer files converted to a form that can be used in our system. The recording on our own tape was reduced to an unacceptable level due to the interconnection with all the additional show and A/V gear. There was insufficient time to check and reset these levels, or to perform a full line check before BOSTON took the stage. In the meantime, while we try to sort this out, we thought that we would share this version of "More Than a Feeling," from a rehearsal session. This is from the first time that Michael Sweet rehearsed with Tom, Gary, Kimberley and Jeff together. FYI, this was an informal stereo recording, and the mix levels and quality are not up to professional standards.
Enjoy!
Tom Scholz
PS: This is the real time mix I hear in my stereo earpiece feeds when we practice and play. Pretty cool, huh!

One of rock & roll's most distinctive vocalists, Boston's Brad Delp, passed away on March 9, 2007. In addition to our sadness over the music world losing a tremendous presence and iconic singer, we felt a much deeper sense of grief within our online community. While we at HounddogRadio.net didn't have the good fortune of knowing Brad personally, several of our colleagues, listeners and frequent chatroom visitors did and considered him a dear friend. We did this show primarily for these folks, as well as to Brad's family, friends, bandmates and fans (and the man sure has plenty of those).
Segments contain music and listener remembrances of Brad Delp and how he touched so many lives.
